Arsenal moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after an easy win over Sunderland, with Viktor Gyokeres scoring twice.

The Gunners had to be patient against a well-organised Sunderland defence, but they finally broke through when Martin Zubimendi’s long-range shot went in off the post.

Sunderland had a few chances, with Brian Brobbey causing problems and Kai Havertz clearing one effort off the line after a mistake by goalkeeper David Raya.

Arsenal made sure of the win in the second half. Substitute Gyokeres scored in the 66th minute after a pass from Havertz, then added a second late on by tapping into an empty net after good work from Gabriel Martinelli.

With rivals Aston Villa dropping points and Manchester City not playing yet, the result puts extra pressure on Arsenal’s title challengers.
