Alexander Sorloth scored his first Champions League hat-trick as Atletico Madrid beat Club Brugge to reach the last 16, where they will face either Tottenham or Liverpool.
The Norway striker opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after collecting a long pass from goalkeeper Jan Oblak and firing past Simon Mignolet. Brugge equalised 13 minutes later when Joel Ordonez headed in from a corner to level the tie.
Early in the second half, Johnny Cardoso smashed in a low shot to put Atletico back in front on aggregate. Sorloth then sealed the win with two more goals in the final 14 minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Diego Simeone’s side improved after the break and ended their three-game winless run in the Champions League, setting up a last-16 clash with Premier League opposition.
