Callum Wilson scored a stoppage-time winner to give West Ham United a dramatic 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Spurs boss Thomas Frank facing the anger of his own fans.
Cristian Romero had looked to have earned Spurs a point with a header, but Wilson bundled in a late goal from a corner, ending West Ham’s 10-game winless streak in the league. The result sparked furious scenes at Tottenham, with fans chanting “sacked in the morning” and booing Frank and his players at full-time.
Tottenham, who debuted Conor Gallagher after his £35m move from Atletico Madrid, needed a strong start to calm the tense atmosphere. Instead, West Ham struck first through Crysencio Summerville, whose shot deflected in off Micky van de Ven after 15 minutes. Spurs’ misery worsened as Ben Davies was stretchered off after his challenge on West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen in the lead-up to the goal.
West Ham then missed a great chance to double their lead when Taty Castellanos headed over from close range. Spurs went into halftime to a hostile reception but came out stronger in the second half. Yves Bissouma, playing his first game of the season, helped lift Spurs, and Romero scored with a header from Pedro Porro’s cross in the 64th minute to level the match.
Spurs pressed for a winner, with Alphonse Areola making a crucial save from Xavi Simons, but Wilson’s late goal provided the dramatic ending, giving West Ham all three points.
