Aston Villa manager Unai Emery says the club are “not convinced” about signing Harvey Elliott permanently.
Elliott joined Villa from Liverpool on a season-long loan in September, with a £35m obligation to buy if he plays 10 Premier League games. However, he has only featured five times under Emery, mostly as a substitute, and hasn’t reached the required games to trigger the permanent transfer.
Emery explained that while Elliott trains well and behaves professionally, the club decided two months ago that spending the money to sign him permanently was not the right choice.
Elliott, who impressed with England Under-21s last summer, has only started once in the Premier League for Villa and scored his only goal in a Carabao Cup match against Brentford. He is also not keen on moving to MLS despite interest from Charlotte FC.
