Stan Wawrinka has been given a wildcard to play the Australian Open as he begins the final season of his career. The 40-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion, who won his first major at Melbourne Park in 2014, said it is a “career highlight” to return to the tournament.
Wawrinka, currently ranked 156th in the world, has won 16 career titles, with his most recent coming in Geneva in 2017. Notably, Australian Nick Kyrgios did not receive a wildcard.
