Senegal Coach Thiaw banned after AFCON final Chaos

Senegal manager Pape Thiaw has been banned for five games and fined $100,000 after the chaos in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco.

The final, which Senegal won 1-0, erupted when players left the field after a late Morocco penalty decision. Thiaw told his team to walk off, delaying the match for 17 minutes until Sadio Mane convinced them to return. Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy then saved the penalty, and Pape Gueye scored in extra time to secure the win.

Senegal forwards Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr received two-match bans, while Morocco’s Ismael Saibari got three matches and Achraf Hakimi two (one suspended). Senegal’s federation was fined $615,000. A request by Morocco to overturn the result was rejected.

The bans apply only to CAF matches and won’t affect Senegal’s World Cup preparation.
