Sadio Mane scored the late winner as Senegal beat Egypt 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) semi-final, ending Mohamed Salah’s hopes of winning his first Afcon title. Mane’s decisive goal came 12 minutes from time with a low shot from outside the box.
This is the third time Mane has outshone his former Liverpool teammate in a major international match, following Senegal’s penalty shootout wins over Egypt in the 2021 Afcon final and a 2022 World Cup play-off.
Salah, who scored four goals to help Egypt reach the semi-finals, had little impact as Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy kept a clean sheet.
Senegal will face either Nigeria or hosts Morocco in Sunday’s final, while they will be without captain Kalidou Koulibaly and midfielder Habib Diarra due to suspensions, and Koulibaly may also be unfit after leaving the semi-final early.
