Wayne Rooney, Manchester United’s former captain and record goalscorer, says the club has taken a “step” towards returning to its glory days.
After beating rivals Manchester City in the derby, United followed it up with a thrilling 3-2 win over Premier League leaders Arsenal, making it two wins in a row since Michael Carrick became interim head coach on 13 January.
The wins put United fourth in the table and in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League next season. Rooney praised how the team has played and how the club has worked behind the scenes since Carrick took charge.
He said, “The change in Manchester United over two games is incredible. Michael and his coaches deserve a lot of praise. They’ve given the players focus, attitude, and togetherness we didn’t see before. Manchester United went there believing they could win. Even when they went a goal down, their reaction was great. They deserved the win.”
