Goalkeeper Robin Roefs saved three penalties as Sunderland beat Everton in a shootout to reach the FA Cup fourth round.

The Black Cats were the better side and looked set to win in normal time after Enzo Le Fee scored a fine first-half goal. Everton only forced penalties late on with a soft spot-kick, scored by James Garner.

In the shootout, Roefs denied Garner, Thierno Barry and Beto, while Luke O’Nien scored the winning penalty. Sunderland also converted through Le Fee and Granit Xhaka.

The win continues Sunderland’s strong season, while Everton exited despite naming a strong starting team.
