Former Sheffield United midfielder Louis Reed scored twice against his boyhood club as League One Mansfield Town shocked the Blades in a dramatic seven-goal FA Cup third-round match.
Reed’s two first-half goals helped Mansfield take control against their Championship opponents, despite a fine strike from Gus Hamer for Sheffield United.
Backed by around 5,000 travelling fans, Mansfield extended their lead after the break through Lucas Akins and Rhys Oates, putting the Stags three goals ahead.
Sheffield United mounted a late comeback with goals from Patrick Bamford and an own goal by Nathan Moriah-Welsh, making the closing stages tense.
However, Mansfield held on for a famous FA Cup win, securing their fourth straight victory in all competitions, with Reed calling the moment “bitter-sweet” after scoring against the club he supports.
