Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale saved three penalties as Newcastle United beat Bournemouth in a dramatic FA Cup shootout to reach the fourth round.
The former Bournemouth keeper denied Evanilson, Alex Jimenez and Bafode Diakite, with Diakite’s miss sealing the win at St James’ Park. Defender Malick Thiaw had earlier put Newcastle ahead in sudden death.
The match was packed with drama. Harvey Barnes scored twice for Newcastle, but Bournemouth replied through Alex Scott, David Brooks and Marcus Tavernier, forcing extra time and then penalties. Anthony Gordon’s late penalty kept Newcastle alive before the shootout heroics of Ramsdale decided the tie.
