Emma Raducanu recorded her first win of the season by beating Camila Osorio in straight sets at the Hobart International, after their match was interrupted by rain. The British star had taken the first set before play was stopped, trailing in the second, but returned the next day to turn things around and win 6-3 7-6.
The 23-year-old showed strong resilience, recovering from a break down in the second set to seal victory and celebrate loudly on court. It was a tough match played in difficult conditions, with Raducanu admitting the stop-start nature of the contest made it even harder.
The win was Raducanu’s first since September, after she ended last season early due to injury and dealt with bone bruising in her foot during the off-season. Now through to the quarter-finals, she will face Australian wildcard Taylah Preston as she continues her build-up to the Australian Open, which begins on Sunday.
