Pakistan will decide by early next week whether to boycott next month’s men’s T20 World Cup.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to discuss Pakistan’s participation following Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the tournament. The ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March.
Naqvi said all options remain open, including a full boycott or boycotting only the match against India, which is scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka at a neutral venue. A final decision is expected by Friday or next Monday.
Political tensions between countries have influenced the situation, with Pakistan supporting Bangladesh’s security concerns during an emergency ICC meeting. The ICC, however, said there was no credible security threat and refused to change the schedule.
