Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is the eighth NFL Coach to be sacked

The Miami Dolphins have sacked head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons in charge. He is the eighth NFL coach to lose his job during the current campaign and the sixth since the regular season ended in early January.

Miami finished the season with a 7-10 record, their worst since 2019. Although McDaniel had earlier signed a contract extension after leading the Dolphins to the play-offs in his first two seasons, a poor start to the 2025 season — losing six of their first seven games — put his future in doubt.

Team owner Stephen Ross decided on major changes after the season ended, having already fired general manager Chris Grier. Ross praised McDaniel’s work and passion but said the club felt it was time for a fresh direction.

Reports say the decision is not linked to former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, despite Ross having family ties to him.
