Former Leeds United and Wales midfielder Terry Yorath has died at the age of 75 after a short illness.
Yorath spent nine years at Leeds United, scoring 11 goals in 199 games after joining the club in 1967. He was part of the team that won the First Division title in 1974 and also finished runners-up in the FA Cup, European Cup and Cup Winners’ Cup.
At international level, Yorath made 59 appearances for Wales, captaining the side 42 times. He later managed Wales and came close to taking them to the 1994 World Cup, but they narrowly missed out after losing 2-1 to Romania in their final qualifier.
During his playing career, Yorath also featured for Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, Vancouver Whitecaps, Bradford City, and briefly Swansea City. After retiring, he moved into management, taking charge of clubs including Swansea, Bradford, Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday, Margate, and the Wales national team. He famously guided Swansea to promotion in 1988.
Yorath was the father of BBC Sport presenter Gabby Logan. His family described him as a “quiet, kind and gentle man,” adding that they were heartbroken by his passing. Tributes have poured in from across football, remembering him as both a Leeds and Wales legend and a respected figure in the game.
