Igor Thiago continued his hot form by scoring twice as Brentford beat Sunderland 3-0 at Gtech Community Stadium, moving up to fifth in the Premier League. The striker, who scored a hat-trick at Everton last weekend, now has 16 league goals this season – the most ever by a Brazilian in a single Premier League campaign.
Thiago opened the scoring by calmly rounding Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs and added a second with a close-range header from Kevin Schade’s cross. Yehor Yarmoliuk sealed the win with a well-placed strike from a corner. Sunderland had a chance to pull one back when Brian Brobbey was fouled in the box, but Enzo Le Fee’s weak effort was easily saved.
Brentford have now won four of their last five games and remain unbeaten in six, boosting their hopes of qualifying for Europe. Sunderland, meanwhile, have lost their first game in six and won only once in their past seven matches.
