John Higgins pulled off a stunning comeback to beat world number one Judd Trump 6-5 and reach his first Masters final since 2021.
The Scot will face Kyren Wilson in Sunday’s best-of-19 final after also edging past Chinese debutant Wu Yize 6-5 in a thrilling semi-final. Higgins had lost his previous seven matches against Trump and started poorly, going 3-0 and 5-3 down. But Trump missed key chances, giving Higgins the opening he needed to fight back.
“He should maybe have been 4-0 in front and I maybe made it too easy for him,” Higgins told BBC Sport. “The fourth frame was massive because if he goes 4-0 it’s done. At 3-1 I felt good.” He added, “People will laugh but I think I’m a better player now than I’ve ever been.”
Higgins, 50, crafted a superb 104 break to win the fifth frame and later made crucial runs of 57, 70, and 57 to reel off three frames in a row. Trump, 36, missed a routine brown in the ninth frame, allowing Higgins to complete a remarkable turnaround and become the oldest player to reach a Triple Crown final.
