Arsenal manager Renee Slegers says goalkeeper time-wasting in the Women’s Super League (WSL) can damage the attractiveness of the game.
Her comments followed Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United, where United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joycewent down for treatment late on after her team were reduced to 10 players. The stoppage allowed United players to receive instructions from the touchline, leading to complaints of time-wasting.
Slegers said the long breaks affected Arsenal’s momentum and made the match less enjoyable for fans watching in the stadium and on TV. She believes the league must protect the entertainment value of the game as interest in the WSL continues to grow.
