Gabon’s government has lifted the sanctions placed on the national team and striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after their poor showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Panthers finished bottom of their group at Afcon in Morocco, leading the former sports minister to suspend the team, sack coach Thierry Mouyouma, and drop Aubameyang and captain Bruno Ecuele Manga.
However, the new sports minister, Paul Ulrich Kessany, has reversed those decisions, easing tensions that could have led to Fifa sanctions for government interference.
Gabon’s football federation Fegafoot welcomed the move and said discussions will now focus on appointing a new coaching staff ahead of future competitions, including Afcon 2027 qualifiers.
