France striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has told Crystal Palace he wants to leave the club because other Premier League and European teams are interested in him.
The 28-year-old has 18 months left on his contract and is not planning to sign a new deal. Juventus have tried to sign Mateta this month but have not met Palace’s £40m asking price. Aston Villa are also interested.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed the club is open to offers, saying Mateta will be sold if the right price is paid — otherwise, he will stay.
Palace have already lost key players, selling Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer and captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City in January. Glasner, who will leave at the end of the season, has criticised the club’s recruitment after recent poor results.
The club also suffered a major shock earlier this month after being knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league Macclesfield.
