Burnley showed little confidence as they lost to Brighton – Parker

Burnley boss Scott Parker admitted his team “lacked belief” as they lost 2-0 at Brighton, marking their ninth defeat in 11 Premier League games. Goals from Georginio Rutter and Yasin Ayari made the win comfortable for the hosts. The defeat leaves Burnley 19th in the table, six points from safety, with just two points collected from the last 33 available.

Parker, whose team hasn’t won since 26 October, said: “We were really poor today and didn’t deserve anything. We lacked belief, and that’s worrying.” Burnley managed only three shots on target, and defensive errors made things worse. The absence of captain Josh Cullen, out for the season with a knee injury, was also felt in midfield.

Parker added: “We’ve been building on certain things, but the way we lost today is not acceptable. We need a reaction. Even though there are still six points to safety, if we play like this, it won’t be enough to stay up.”

Sweden international Hjalmar Ekdal agreed, saying the team was weak and lacking belief. “We’re embarrassed. The mindset and character weren’t there, and we weren’t really in the game,” he said.
