Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins scored as Aston Villa finally won at St James’ Park, beating Newcastle United in the Premier League. It was Villa’s first victory there since 2005.
Buendia opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a brilliant chipped shot over Nick Pope, while Watkins sealed the win late on by heading in a cross from Lucas Digne. The result lifted Unai Emery’s side level on points with second-placed Manchester City.
Newcastle had chances, with Sandro Tonali and Lewis Miley both denied by Emiliano Martinez, but Villa also threatened and Nick Pope could not stop the goals that secured a deserved away win.
