England captain Harry Brook slammed the pitch in Colombo after their ODI win over Sri Lanka, calling it “probably the worst” he has ever played on.
England chased down 220 at the R Premadasa Stadium, with Joe Root scoring 75 to lead the side to a five-wicket victory.
The pitch was so slow and spin-heavy that England bowled 40.3 overs of spin, the most in an ODI since 1985. Brook said the surface forced players to adapt quickly, while Root called it a “very difficult wicket” and not ideal for ODI cricket.
Despite the tricky conditions, Brook praised his bowlers for their efforts and hailed Root as the key player in the win, noting his ability to handle the spin and guide England to victory.
