England white-ball captain Harry Brook has admitted lying about a nightclub altercation in Wellington, New Zealand, on 1 November to protect his teammates. Brook initially said he was alone that night but later confirmed others, including Jacob Bethell and Josh Tongue, were present.
He accepted responsibility for his actions, expressed regret, and said he is learning from the incident about the responsibilities of leadership and captaincy. Brook was fined and given a final warning, with the details coming to light months later after England’s 4-1 Test series loss to Australia.
The 26-year-old, in his first overseas tour as captain, said the incident began after going out for food and escalated when he tried to enter a nightclub, adding he had “one too many drinks.”
