Broncos QB Bo Nix breaks ankle in Playoff victory

0

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix will miss the rest of the season after breaking his ankle during Saturday’s dramatic 33-30 play-off win over the Buffalo Bills.

Head coach Sean Payton said the injury happened late in the game, just before Wil Lutz kicked the winning field goal in overtime. Despite the injury, Nix stayed on the field for two more plays to help secure the victory.

The 25-year-old will now miss Denver’s push for the Super Bowl, with back-up quarterback Jarrett Stidham set to start the AFC Championship game next Sunday. Nix is due to have surgery on Tuesday.

Before getting injured, Nix threw three touchdown passes and helped the Broncos reach the AFC Championship for the first time since their 2016 Super Bowl win. He played a key role in Denver finishing as the top seed in the AFC with a 14-3 record.

This season, Nix threw 25 touchdowns, ran for four more, and recorded 3,931 passing yards. He also led eight game-winning drives, the most by any quarterback aged 25 or under in the Super Bowl era.

Stidham, who has barely played this season, will now step in as Denver try to reach the Super Bowl without their star quarterback.
