World number one Carlos Alcaraz says the recent tweaks to his serve have been a major factor in his run to the Australian Open quarter-finals. A straight-sets win over 19th seed Tommy Paul took Alcaraz into his 14th Grand Slam quarter-final, breaking the Open-era record for players under 23 previously held by Bjorn Borg and Boris Becker.
Alcaraz admitted he has been working on his serve for months and joked it now resembles Novak Djokovic’s. He maintained a high first-serve percentage (70%) and faced no break points in the final two sets, describing the serve as an “important weapon” in his campaign.
Alcaraz will now face either Alex de Minaur or Alexander Bublik as he bids to reach his first semi-final in Melbourne and continue his pursuit of a career Grand Slam.
