Wolves admit they got their summer transfers wrong, with club execs saying the squad changes have badly hurt the team. Technical director Matt Jackson says the players signed in the summer haven’t delivered, and that selling key players left the team too weak.
Wolves are bottom of the Premier League with only two points, haven’t won since April, and have lost eight games in a row — matching a club record. Big names like Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and captain Nelson Semedo all left, while their replacements had no Premier League experience.
Jackson said the signings were made with good intentions, but the results show it “was wrong”. He still believes the new players can improve but admits Wolves need results fast. He also said the club has limited spending power, so they must look for talent in cheaper markets.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi agreed, saying Wolves may have let too many important players leave in one window, forcing a rushed rebuild in the toughest league in the world. Shi says he understands why fans are protesting, especially after the team’s earlier success in the Premier League and Europe.
Supporters have grown frustrated with Fosun’s ownership, and the club’s poor start has added more pressure. But Shi says the owners still care and are not looking to sell.
Despite the crisis, Shi and Jackson insist manager Rob Edwards has their long-term support, saying it’s a “long-term project” and they believe he is the right man to rebuild the team.
