Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt had surgery after suffering a partially collapsed lung during a dry needlingtreatment.
Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had made six tackles in the Steelers’ win over the Baltimore Ravenson Sunday, but felt discomfort on Wednesday and went to the hospital for a lung check.
Dry needling uses tiny needles to treat pain and movement issues. The Steelers didn’t mention it in their update, but his brother JJ Watt said on X that the collapsed lung happened after a dry needling session.
JJ Watt said the surgery was successful and that TJ is being released from the hospital, although his recovery timeline is still unknown.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Watt will miss Monday’s game against Miami, and that he is resting at home, but there is no date yet for his return.
