Tanzania and Uganda played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) East African derby in Rabat, with Uganda missing a late penalty.
Tanzania took the lead just before the hour mark when Simon Msuva converted a penalty for the Taifa Stars. The lead lasted until the 80th minute, when substitute Uche Ikpeazu scored a diving header to level for Uganda.
The match ended in chaotic torrential rain, with both sides creating chances. Uganda’s Allan Okello missed a late penalty, sending the ball over the bar, denying them a win.
The draw leaves both teams with one point from two games, making qualification for the second round challenging. Tanzania face Tunisia, while Uganda take on Nigeria in their final Group C fixtures on Tuesday.
