England captain Ben Stokes says he still “absolutely” wants to stay in charge despite losing the Ashes series 3-0 in Australia. England were beaten in just three Tests, extending their winless streak in Australia to 18 matches and leaving them without an away Ashes series win for 14 years.
Stokes, who took over as captain after England’s 4-0 defeat four years ago, agreed a new central contract running until the next Ashes in 2027. He insists the heavy loss won’t make him question his commitment and says he still has the energy to lead the team.
During the series, Stokes showed his frustration on the field but also managed his body carefully due to recent injuries. He emphasised that, despite the disappointment, there are lessons to learn and motivation to improve as a more consistent team.
Looking ahead to the fourth Test in Melbourne, Stokes says England will still play hard to avoid a clean sweep and take positives from what’s left of the series.
