Morocco ease into Afcon last 16 as Hakimi makes his return

Hosts Morocco comfortably beat Zambia to finish top of Group A at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), with captain Achraf Hakimi returning from injury.

The Atlas Lions started strongly in Rabat, taking an early lead through Ayoub El Kaabi before Brahim Diaz made it 2-0 before half-time. El Kaabi then sealed the win with an acrobatic bicycle kick early in the second half, with VAR confirming the goal.

Morocco, who are chasing their first Afcon title since 1976, later brought on PSG right-back Hakimi after nearly two months out with an ankle injury. He went close to scoring but was denied by Zambia goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.

The win keeps Morocco in the capital for a last-16 clash against a third-placed team from Group C, D or E. Zambia are out of the tournament and remain winless in 13 Afcon matches.
