Mali fought back to earn a draw against AFCON hosts Morocco in Group A, leaving the hosts close to qualifying for the knockout stage.
The match in Rabat was decided by two penalties, both given after VAR checks. Brahim Diaz put Morocco ahead just before half-time after the ball hit Nathan Gassama’s hand in the box.
Mali hit back after the break when Lassine Sinayoko was fouled by Jawad El Yamiq. Sinayoko calmly scored the penalty despite loud whistles from the crowd to make it 1-1.
Mali goalkeeper Djigui Diarra then made key saves to deny Youssef En-Nesyri and prevent a late own goal, helping his side hold on for a valuable point.
Morocco stay top of Group A with four points. Mali and Zambia both have two points, while Comoros sit bottom with one. The final group matches will be played on Monday, with Morocco facing Zambia and Mali taking on Comoros.
