A badly depleted Manchester United held on to beat Newcastle and move back into the Premier League top five, thanks to a superb winner from Patrick Dorgu at Old Trafford.
United were without seven senior players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, and also lost Mason Mount at half-time. Despite that, they defended strongly as Newcastle dominated possession but failed to score.
Dorgu’s first goal for United proved decisive, smashing home a brilliant volley from the edge of the box that gave Aaron Ramsdale no chance.
Newcastle came close, with Lewis Hall hitting the crossbar, but they could not find an equaliser as United held firm to claim just their second clean sheet of the season. The win lifts United into fifth place, while Newcastle’s poor away form continues.
