Liverpool Worried Isak has Suffered a Serious Lower Leg Injury

0

Liverpool are worried that Alexander Isak may have picked up a serious lower leg injury after being forced off during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham. The Swedish striker came on as a substitute and scored the opening goal, but was fouled by Micky van de Ven just after shooting and could not continue playing.

The 26-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle in a record £125m Premier League transfer in September, will have MRI scans on Sunday to find out how bad the injury is. The scans will also decide how long he could be out. Liverpool manager Arne Slot is expected to give an update at his press conference on Tuesday.

Speaking after the match, Slot said injuries are often serious when a player scores and is then unable to return to the pitch. Isak has had a difficult start at Anfield, scoring only his second league goal of the season in 10 appearances.

Before joining Liverpool, Isak missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour with what was called a minor thigh injury and later trained alone at Real Sociedad before completing his move on deadline day. Because he missed pre-season, he has struggled for fitness and has started just 10 games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, fellow striker Hugo Ekitike, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt, also scored against Spurs and is expected to keep leading the attack. The 23-year-old has scored 11 goals this season, including five in his last three league matches, which has pushed Isak to the bench.
