Kenyan debutant David Munyua caused a huge upset at the PDC World Championship by coming from two sets down to beat world number 18 Mike de Decker.
Munyua, a 30-year-old vet who qualified through the African Darts Group, held his nerve in a thrilling decider, hitting an incredible 135 finish to level the final set before winning the match. He described the victory as “amazing” and a big moment for darts in Africa and Kenya.
Belgian de Decker was left frustrated, continuing his poor record at the World Championship, having never progressed past the last 64 in six appearances.
Other winners on Thursday included Japan’s Motomu Sakai, England’s Ryan Joyce, and Callan Rydz. Evening matches featured Fallon Sherrock against Dave Chisnall and Michael van Gerwen facing Mitsuhiko Tatsunami.
