Ireland lose again to Belgium by just one Goal

0

Ireland lost 2-1 to Belgium for the second time in four days in the Pro League in Dublin.

Just like the first match, Belgium went 2-0 up early with goals from Charlotte Englebert and Aix Gerniers. Ireland only really got going after that, playing much better and pulling one goal back through Sarah Torrans, but they couldn’t score again before time ran out.

Ireland will finish this opening four-game run in hockey’s top league against England on Sunday.

Captain Sarah Hawkshaw said Ireland were unhappy with another slow start, admitting they moved the ball too slowly and made mistakes when put under pressure.

She did, however, take positives from how the team reacted, saying Ireland showed more energy in the second half, moved the ball quicker, created chances, and deserved credit for fighting back despite the defeat.
