Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has called out teammate Calvin Bassey ahead of Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Tanzania on Tuesday.
Chukwueze criticized Bassey’s decision-making in the final third during Fulham’s 3-2 Premier League win over Burnley, which was his last game before joining the national team. Bassey chose not to pass to Chukwueze and instead took a wild shot at goal.
On the Alexander Yaa Digg YouTube channel, Chukwueze said that even great players like Maradona and Messi wouldn’t make such a mistake. He added that the missed opportunity cost him a goal and said the situation is frustrating, calling Bassey “his brother” but stressing, “I am not your enemy. This boy is killing me. Any time I play with him, he doesn’t give me the ball.”
