An international footballer has been arrested in central London on suspicion of assault and affray.
Police said the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday in the West End.
The 29-year-old player was arrested at the scene on two counts of assault and one count of affray.
He cannot be named for legal reasons.
According to police, they were called at 00:47 GMT after reports of an assault.
The alleged victim was taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-changing or life-threatening.
The footballer has been released on bail while police continue their enquiries.
In the UK, the name of someone who has been arrested is rarely made public, a practice strengthened after the 2012 Leveson Inquiry, which said suspects should only be named in exceptional circumstances.
Usually, a suspect’s name is released once they are charged.
