F1 to Replace DRS with new Overtaking System From 2026

0

Formula 1 has announced the new names it will use to explain the major rule changes coming in 2026.

Next season will bring one of the biggest changes in F1 history, with new car designs, new engine rules and the introduction of sustainable fuels. The cars will still use 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid engines, but with much more electric power than before.

Because of this extra electrical power, teams have had to redesign the cars’ aerodynamics. Drivers will also need to carefully manage their electric energy during races  and even during qualifying  to get the best performance.

F1 and the sport’s governing body, the FIA, said they worked with fans to make sure the new rules are easier to understand. They consulted casual viewers, regular fans, teams and technical experts to agree on clearer and simpler terms.

The goal is to help fans better understand what is happening on track, without needing deep technical knowledge.

As part of this, confusing technical names have been dropped and replaced with clearer descriptions that explain what the technology actually does. For example, previously used terms for active aerodynamics have been changed to make their purpose more obvious.
