Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush were rested as Egypt drew 0-0 with Angola at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt had already secured top spot in Group B, so the seven-time champions made wholesale changes to their starting line-up and lacked sharpness in attack.
Angola needed a win to boost their chances of reaching the knockout stage, but could not find a goal. Fredy came closest when he hit the post early in the second half, while Egypt substitute Zizo forced a good save from goalkeeper Hugo Marques.
The draw leaves Angola on two points, meaning they must now wait to see if they qualify for the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. Other groups already have third-placed teams on three points, which puts Angola’s hopes in doubt.
Egypt, who had earlier beaten Zimbabwe and South Africa with goals from Salah and Marmoush, will stay in Agadir for their last-16 match next Monday. They will face a third-placed team from Group A, C or D. South Africa also qualified after beating Zimbabwe in the other Group B match.
