Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche says he won’t weigh his players like Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola over Christmas. Instead, he’s asking them to use “common sense” and look after themselves.
Forest face City on Saturday, and while Guardiola will check his squad’s fitness after the break, Dyche joked that players should manage their own diet and rest. He said it’s fine for them to enjoy Christmas meals and that being a professional footballer also means taking responsibility for their own fitness.
Dyche stressed that while numbers and fitness matter, trusting players and keeping a balance between discipline and enjoyment is just as important. He also highlighted that younger academy players know how to eat well, sleep properly, and look after themselves.
