Dickens Says He’s Officially Been Moved up to World Champion Status.

Liverpool’s Jazza Dickens says he has been upgraded to WBA super-featherweight champion after Lamont Roach was stripped of the title. Roach won the belt in 2023, but his last two fights were at lightweight and light-welterweight, not super-featherweight, and both ended in majority draws.

Dickens, 34, last fought in July, when he stopped Russia’s Albert Batyrgaziev in round four to win the WBA interim belt. He told BBC Sport that years of hard work are finally paying off and thanked everyone who helped him reach this point. BBC Sport has asked the WBA for official confirmation.

If confirmed, Dickens will become Britain’s fourth reigning male world champion, joining Nick Ball, Lewis Crocker, and Fabio Wardley. He is set to face unbeaten Japanese fighter Hayato Tsutsumi in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 27 December.

Dickens has won 36 of 41 fights, with 15 knockouts, and two of his five losses came at world level. He previously lost to Guillermo Rigondeaux in 2016 for the WBA super-bantamweight title and to Kid Galahad in 2021 for the IBF featherweight belt. Throughout his career, he has competed in three weight classes and has been British champion at super-bantamweight and European champion at featherweight.
