Benin secured their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) win with a 1-0 victory over Botswana in Rabat.

The historic goal came in the first half from Yohan Roche, whose deflected strike followed a one-two with Steve Mounie, giving Benin their first points in the 2025 tournament and marking their maiden win in 16 AFCON matchesacross five editions.

Botswana nearly equalised when Mothusi Johnson hit the crossbar with a free-kick, and goalkeeper Goitseone Phokomade two key saves after the break to deny further chances.

Both teams will play their final Group D matches on Tuesday, with Benin facing Senegal in Tangier and Botswana taking on DR Congo in Rabat. Senegal and DR Congo currently top the group with three points each.
