Arsenal left it very late to beat Wolves, winning in dramatic fashion thanks to a stoppage-time own goal at the Emirates.
The league leaders struggled for long spells against a well-organised Wolves defence and didn’t go in front until the 70th minute, when Bukayo Saka’s corner ended up bouncing in off Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Even then, Arsenal couldn’t relax. Wolves kept pushing and were rewarded in the 90th minute when Tolu Arokodare headed in an equaliser, leaving home fans fearing a costly slip in the title race.
But Arsenal had one final twist. Saka sent a late cross into the box and Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera, trying to clear it, accidentally headed the ball into his own net, sparking huge relief and celebrations in the stands.
Manager Mikel Arteta described the match as a “rollercoaster”, admitting his side took risks but praising them for finding a way to win. The only downside was Ben White being forced off early with a hamstring injury.
The win keeps Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City at the top, with a tough away game against Everton up next.
