Eddie Howe will start next season as Newcastle manager regardless of whether the team qualifies for Europe or not, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Since the start of November, only Brentford (8) have lost more Premier League away games than Newcastle (7), while the Magpies have shipped the most goals on the road during this period (24 in 9 games).
The club are expected to carry out a major overhaul of the first team squad in the summer and Howe is the man they want to oversee the next phase of the project under their Saudi Arabian owners.
They have not felt any need to offer a vote of confidence as they believe the club’s progress was never going to be in a straight line and the league’s Profit and Sustainability rules have handcuffed them in recruitment.
Howe said following the Chelsea defeat on Monday: "I
thought it was a game in the balance and an open game.
The game got away from us with the goals we conceded which were really poor from our perspective – they were self-induced.
“Wherever you play you have to pride yourself on being tight and I don’t think Chelsea had an abundance of chances tonight.
“But the way the goals came from our perspective is hugely frustrating as we know the details have to get better.”
