Leicester goalkeeper Smithies retires from football

Leicester goalkeeper Alex Smithies has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 due to injury.

The former Huddersfield, Cardiff and QPR shotstopper has not played for the Championship leaders since joining in August 2022.

But following a run of persistent injuries, Smithies has been forced to call time on a 17-year playing career that saw him make nearly 500 senior appearances.
