Crystal Palace are in talks to sign Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton - with an initial offer rejected by the club.
The 19-year-old became an England U20 international earlier this season.
The bid was understood to have been a substantial offer in the region of £18m.
Talks are continuing and Palace are considering whether to follow up with another offer.
Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson said on Wharton: "There's been an offer and the club has said no, which I like.
"He’s a great lad, I remember last year sitting at home with his parents drinking tea to discuss his development.
Now he’s a first-team player and I believe he’ll be an England player."
