Serie A: He’s horrible, zero sympathy – Mourinho names worst referee

AS Roma manager, Jose Mourinho has described referee Daniele Chiffi as the worst match official ever.

Describing the referee as horrible, the veteran Portuguese boss said he had to wear a microphone to Roma’s Serie A clash against Monza to “protect” himself against “the worst referee I have met in my life.”

Chiffi had sent off Roma’s Mehmet Zeki Celik in the 96th minute and Mourinho was furious with the decision.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss has been red-carded three times this season for disputes with officials.

He was sent off by the same Chiffi in September.

“I went to the game with a microphone. I recorded everything,” Mourinho said.

“From the moment I left the locker room, to the moment I returned – I protected myself.

“He [Cheffi] is the worst. Technically he’s horrible. Zero empathy. Zero communication. Zero awareness.”

The Portuguese tactician said he had to stop his coaching job on the touchline for about 20-30 minutes because I knew the referee would give him a red card for anything he does at that moment.

“I didn’t give him the opportunity, I decided no, that’s enough,” Mourinho said.
