EPL: That’s nuts – Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker react to Haaland breaking most goals scored

Former Premier League stars, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have led the praise for Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland after he broke the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season on Wednesday night.

Haaland netted his 35th goal of the Premier League campaign in his 31st game as Man City defeated West Ham 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

The Norway international overtook Shearer and Andy Cole as the outright leader in the record books.

In doing so, the 22-year-old also netted his 51st goal of the season across competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Man City still have five games remaining in the league, and Haaland could run away with the goals record in the English top-flight league, with a potential of four more games to play in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Reacting, Shearer, in a tweet, wrote: Shearer tweeted: “Couldn’t have wanted it to go to a nicer guy. It’s only taken 28 years! He’s the best.”

On his part, Lineker tweeted, “A Premier League record for Erling Haaland. 35 goals. That’s nuts. Thoughts are with Alan Shearer at this difficult time.”
