EPL: Don’t do something stupid – Carragher warns Arsenal ahead of Man City tie

Ahead of their crucial match against Manchester City, Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has warned Arsenal not to do something stupid.

Carragher gave the warning while disagreeing with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who earlier claimed his side must beat Manchester City to keep their title hopes alive.

The Gunners are enduring a wobble having forfeited two-goal leads to draw with Liverpool and West Ham in the last two weeks.

Arsenal went on to record another draw on Friday night this time a 3-3 draw with bottom-placed Southampton.

Arteta told reporters after the disappointing draw that his side will now need to beat Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to stand a chance of lifting the trophy.

But Carragher believes it would be stupidity for Arsenal to go to the Etihad to find a win.

He said the Gunner can still clinch the title if they draw with City and that the North Londoners ‘should not do anything stupid’ to try to force a victory.

“What I don’t think Arsenal should do is, if that game is in the balance with 20 minutes to go, they shouldn’t do something stupid in terms of thinking they have to win the game.

“They want to win the game but don’t lose it. If they lose the game, it is over, it’s finished.”

Going into the Etihad showdown, the Gunners are five points clear of the league table but second-placed Manchester City have two games in hand.
